Mohamed Salah has defined an era in the Premier League since arriving from AS Roma in 2017, steadily building a lasting legacy. On Sunday, Liverpool secured the second Premier League title in the club’s history, and Salah broke a major record previously held by an Argentine legend.

Liverpool hosted Tottenham Hotspur for Matchday 34, with the Reds looking to seal the league title at home. In the 63rd minute, with Liverpool leading 3-1, Dominik Szoboszlai led a counterattack and played the ball to Salah, who cut inside and unleashed a stunning strike to etch his name onto the scoresheet.

With his goal against Tottenham, Mohamed Salah became the highest-scoring international player in Premier League history. The Egyptian has now featured in 297 Premier League matches, scoring 185 goals — two with Chelsea and 183 with Liverpool.

The previous record-holder was Sergio Agüero, who scored 184 Premier League goals, all while wearing the Manchester City shirt. The Argentine legend had held the record since the 2019–20 season, when he surpassed Thierry Henry’s 175 goals.

Salah has been a fundamental piece for Arne Slot’s Liverpool side, helping the Reds claim their second Premier League title following Jürgen Klopp’s triumph in 2019–20 — a trophy that ended the club’s 30-year drought for a domestic league title. With the 2025 title, Liverpool have now tied Manchester United’s record of 20 first-division championships, making them the two most successful clubs in English league history.

Salah and the pursuit of Premier League goal-scoring history

It’s no stretch to say that Mohamed Salah is now a living legend at Liverpool — and a defining figure of the Premier League era. Having extended his contract with Liverpool until June 2027, the Egyptian star is poised to chase down some of the most iconic names in the league’s all-time goal-scoring charts.

Salah’s Premier League goal tally currently stands at 185, placing him fifth all-time, behind Andrew Cole (187), Wayne Rooney (208), Harry Kane (213), and Alan Shearer (260). With 28 goals in 34 games during the 2024–25 season, Salah’s current form suggests he could soon surpass several of the legends ahead of him on the all-time leaderboard.
