Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo took to Instagram to confirm to fans that he will miss up to three months after breaking his foot.

The injury took place on Friday during a friendly against Hearts.

The 28-year-old Spanish international posted a picture of his right foot (see below) in a protective boot on the social media site. A message accompanying the picture read:

“I want to let you know that its going to be hard for the next few months. I fractured my 5th metatarsal and will be out a few months. I will be back stronger than ever. I will return with a vengeance.”

In recent days, Negredo had been the topic of transfer speculation at the club. Reports coming from Manchester City had suggested that Manuel Pellegrini was willing to listen to offers for the Spanish forward.

After signing from Sevilla in the summer of 2013, Negredo made a strong start at Manchester City scoring 26 goals for the club in all competitions before the end of January.

But the forward, nicknamed “Beast,” suffered a shoulder injury and subsequently went scoreless in his next sixteen appearances.

It is believed that since his loss of form, Negredo has fallen out of favor with Manuel Pellegrini.

But prior to the injury, the Spanish striker expressed his desire to remain at City and fight for his spot on the first team.

“I don’t want to leave City. I’m very happy and very settled here. I had a difficult end to the season and that’s why there has been a lot of talking but I’ve been very happy here from the first day I arrived.”

If the club had any plans of selling the player, news of his injury will likely any ideas of that taking place.

Manchester City are due to fly out to the United States today to start their preseason tour.
