Inter Miami are set to visit Minnesota United FC on Saturday in another key clash of the 2025 MLS season, with the Florida side aiming to climb to the top of the Eastern Conference. However, Lionel Messi and his team could be dealt a major blow, as Luis Suarez is reportedly in doubt for the match.

The team led by Messi bounced back last weekend with a 4–1 win over the New York Red Bulls, following three straight losses—two against Vancouver Whitecaps in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and one to FC Dallas in MLS play. But ahead of the trip to Minnesota, concerns over Suárez’s availability could disrupt Javier Mascherano’s plans.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano addressed Luis Suarez’s current situation ahead of the training session: “Luis had to travel due to personal reasons. The rest, except for David Ruiz and Drake Callender, are available to train.”

While no further details were shared, Suarez’s absence from Friday’s session represents a significant challenge for Mascherano, with the game just 24 hours away. His status remains uncertain, casting doubt on his availability for Saturday’s lineup.

Minnesota United, currently second in the Western Conference, have been one of the most consistent teams this season. With a strong defensive record and only two losses so far—against LAFC and Vancouver—the matchup poses a real test for Inter Miami. Losing Suárez for this game would be a serious setback as the team continues its push for first place.

Luis Suarez’s return to form

Suarez has been a key figure for Inter Miami since joining the club, playing a central role in their 2024 Supporters’ Shield triumph. However, the 2025 season began with questions surrounding his fitness and form.

The Uruguayan striker endured a nine-game goal drought, going nearly two full months without finding the back of the net. That slump ended last weekend against the Red Bulls, when Suarez scored and added an assist—finally breaking his scoring drought and surpassing Gonzalo Higuain to become the club’s third all-time leading scorer with 30, a major milestone in his MLS journey.
