Juventus Head Coach Antonio Conte has left the club by mutual consent, according to a statement issued by the club.
Less than two months ago, Italian giants Juventus announced that Antonio Conte would be staying on for another season as manager of the Turin club. This proclamation came on the heels of the Bianconeri celebrating both a third straight Scudetto triumph and the achievement of landing a top-flight record points haul of 102.
The 44-year-old manager replaced Luigi Delneri in May 2011 and had been hinting he was looking for a new coaching challenge earlier in 2014.
It now appears he will have that opportunity; whether Conte is be able to find a team for this season will certainly be determined over the coming weeks and months.
Conte had previously been mentioned as a possible replacement for David Moyes at Manchester United before Holland boss Louis van Gaal was installed as the new man in charge at Old Trafford.
There was also speculation in May that the former Bianconeri midfielder was a potential replacement to Italian national team coach Cesare Prandelli.
Prandelli has since resigned from his position following Italy’s elimination from this year’s World Cup tournament.
Now that the Juventus job is vacant, the search for a new manager will begin immediately.
Once again, reports in May suggested the Juve board were considering making an approach to Sampdoria for their Serbian coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, had Antonio Conte decided to leave Turin then.
Now that the decision has been made, Mihajlovic could be back in the picture.
