Former Montreal Impact Head Coach Jesse Marsch is set to replace the fired Mike Petke as the new head coach of the New York Red Bulls, according to a report by Empire of Soccer.
In a brief statement released by New York Red Bulls today, the club confirmed that Mike Petke will not return as the club’s head coach in 2015. Petke served as the head coach for the past two seasons.
“On behalf of the New York Red Bulls, I want to thank Mike for his service to the club these past two seasons as head coach,” said Sporting Director Ali Curtis. “Mike will always be an important member of the Red Bull family.”
Meanwhile, Marsch may officially be announced as the new head coach as early as this afternoon. The former Chicago Fire player had a record of 12-16-6 while head coach of Montreal in 2012.
Petke was fired despite taking the New York Red Bulls to the Eastern Conference Final where the team lost 4-3 on aggregate to the New England Revolution. Petke departs New York with a 30-19-19 record.
