Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has officially been named as the new manager of the Spanish club, Real Sociedad.
According to Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, the Scottish manager had been considering the job for ‘some time’ and was in direct contact with the San Sebastian-based club’s president for as many as ten days.
Moyes earned the unflattering nickname ‘Dithering Dave’ while he was employed at Everton for his hesitancy over signing players, and it appears his indecisiveness has carried over to his dealings with officials at Real Sociedad.
According to Balague, the reason why Moyes didn’t accept the job sooner wasn’t because of the money or the length of his contract, the Spanish football expert believes that the former United boss was concerned about the appearances of taking this new position with the La Liga side after having managed one of the world’s biggest clubs.
But Moyes has made up his mind and officially signed a deal with Real Sociedad which will see his contract run until the summer of 2016. He will take charge of his new side for the first time on November 22 against Real Deportivo.
Real Sociedad are currently third from the bottom in La Liga following a poor start to the season. Jagoba Arrasate was dismissed from the club on November 2nd after picking up just six points from a possible thirty in the Primera Division. At the time, the club’s sole victory of the domestic campaign came against Real Madrid when the Txuriurdin battled back from two goals to beat the European champions, 4-2.
This past weekend – without a full-time manager – La Real were able to defeat the defending La Liga champions Atletico Madrid, 2-1. The victory ended a run of eight games without a win, including five defeats.
Regarding the appointment of Moyes, the club released a statement on its official website: “Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with David Moyes who has been appointed coach of the first team until June 30, 2016. Details about the official presentation of Real Sociedad’s new coach and who will form part of his technical team will be published tomorrow morning [Tuesday].”
