Diego Costa is being looked at by staff doctors heading into Chelsea’s game against Swansea City this Saturday. Costa has suffered from various leg injuries over the last year, a large cause for concern for many Chelsea fans after hearing of the Spaniard’s signing before arrived at Stamford Bridge. However he has proven his health by scoring four goals for the Blues in only three appearances, but might have taken a step back after complaining of discomfort in his leg following Spain’s friendly against France last week which caused him to pull out of the 2016 Euro qualifier against Macedonia on Monday.

Since missing the Macedonia game, Chelsea doctors have been monitoring Costa’s progress and will continue to assess his health before Chelsea face Swansea this weekend. Both teams are currently top of the league with nine points and only two goals separating Swansea from being first place. Following Swansea, Chelsea will face their first Champions League opponents in Schalke the following Wednesday.

Costa missed some games toward the end of Athletico Madrid’s Champions League season last year, and famously received treatment for a hamstring injury with horse placenta but finished the season with 36 goals in all league games. He was given a medical at Stamford Bridge before finalizing his transfer from Madrid to London and was pronounced healthy and ready to play. Since training with Chelsea he has complained of a few minor pains in his legs but all have been considered minor and Costa has not missed a game since.

Chelsea met the £32 million buyout clause in Costa’s contract at the beginning of the transfer season and it was reported that the agreement was a five-year contract with a salary of £150,000 a week. Chelsea surely want to remain at the top of the league and are concerned with Costa’s health long term considering how early in the season it is, with Champions League play starting soon Costa’s goal scoring abilities is as important as ever.
