After the recent defeat against Croatia, Colombia are surrounded by serious doubts about their competitiveness, as they continue to show creative and scoring issues. As a result, they now face France, seeking a victory to dispel those concerns. However, this will be far from easy, as Les Bleus are in top form, building a highly competitive team that does not rely solely on Kylian Mbappé.

Not only do France boast a long winning streak, but their entire roster is in top form. Moreover, coach Didier Deschamps has stated that he will rotate the lineup, giving playing time to players like Marcus Thuram and Rayan Cherki, who remain key figures on top European teams. In addition, they will be looking for a win to keep them in top form for the 2026 World Cup.

Colombia rely on players such as Luis Díaz, Daniel Muñoz, and Jefferson Lerma, who shine at top European clubs. However, they still face certain attacking issues, as James Rodríguez has not been playing at a competitive rhythm as he has just arrived to MLS. In addition, coach Néstor Lorenzo has not been able to find consistent scoring output from Luis Suárez or Jhon Córdoba, increasing the doubts.

Far from being an easy match, the Cafeteros are aiming for a win that can ease concerns and solidify the team amid their attacking struggles. However, France arrive in top form, which could complicate their plans with an offensive prowess. Because of this, both teams are expected to deliver a competitive match, looking to build confidence ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Colombia’s Santiago Arias on facing France: ‘There aren’t just eleven of them—they’re all excellent athletes’

Following the surprising loss to Croatia, Santiago Arias reflected deeply on the team’s performance, making it clear that several individual mistakes had influenced the outcome. With France as their next opponent, the full-back broke his silence, expressing considerable confidence ahead of the match.

“As we’ve seen, France aren’t just a team of eleven players—they’re all excellent athletes. It’s a competitive team that’s going to fight to at least reach the final again. We have the talent, we have the team, and with our experience and determination, that helps us grow and fosters the winning mentality we need,” Santiago Arias said, via RCN Deportes.

Colombia emerged victorious in their latest match against France

Throughout history, Colombia and France have faced each other only four times, with Les Bleus winning three of them. However, Los Cafeteros came out victorious in the most recent meeting, on March 23, 2018. In a tightly contested match at Stade de France, Juan Fernando Quintero, Radamel Falcao, and Luis Muriel led the first-ever victory against the French side.

Because of this, coach Néstor Lorenzo is aiming to repeat this feat, leading an important win to arrive in top form for the 2026 World Cup. However, they still have serious scoring issues, as Luis Suárez has yet to build confidence with the national team and Jhon Córdoba is also not delivering in front of goal. In addition, James Rodríguez lacks competitive rhythm, as he has only just arrived in Major League Soccer after several months without playing.
