Christian Pulisic’s teammate in the firing line? Milan’s double striker target raises questions about Santiago Gimenez’s future

Milan’s summer rebuild is taking an ambitious turn, with reports emerging that the club could make a shock double swoop for Dusan Vlahovic and Rasmus Hojlund. It’s a move that would instantly transform the team’s attack — and potentially reshape the future of some current stars. Christian Pulisic’s Rossoneri have already been busy in this summer transfer window, welcoming Massimiliano Allegri as head coach and Igli Tare as sporting director.

They’ve also added Ardon Jashari, Luka Modric, Samuele Ricci, Pervis Estupinan, Pietro Terracciano, and soon Zachary Athekame. Yet, with only one senior striker on the books, there’s no mistaking where the real urgency lies.

As it stands, Santiago Gimenez, Pulisic’s teammate, is the only recognized senior centre-forward in the squad. Allegri is ready to give the Mexican international a chance to prove himself, but the club is actively exploring options.

Gimenez’s father told FOX Sports MX: “Santi is very enthusiastic about everything that has been achieved [at Milan]. The arrival of Allegri and Tare also makes him enthusiastic… The intention… is to play with two number nines… He is also excited to work with Pervis Estupinan, because he is Latin American.”

Still, Milan’s transfer activity could dramatically alter Gimenez’s role, or even his place at the club, before the season begins.

The ‘crazy idea’: Signing both Vlahovic and Hojlund

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Serie A giant’s recruitment discussions have led to an audacious proposal: sign both Vlahovic and Hojlund. The idea would involve bringing in the former on a permanent transfer while securing the latter from Manchester United on loan with an option to buy.

Multiple Italian outlets report that Milan is close to an agreement with Manchester United for a Hojlund loan deal. The proposed terms involve paying around $4.4 million upfront for the loan, plus a $44 million option to buy. However, Hojlund has not yet given the green light, with Relevo’s Matteo Moretto noting: “Rasmus Hojlund is still insisting on staying at Manchester United and compete for a starting spot.”

While talks with the Dane advance, Dusan Vlahovic remains on Allegri’s wish list. Negotiations with Juventus are more challenging, given the Serbian striker’s wages and transfer fee. However, if the Bianconeri secure additional attacking reinforcements — such as Randal Kolo Muani — Vlahovic could become available at a reduced cost.

This double deal would mean there’s little room for Gimenez. In that scenario, the 24-year-old could be loaned out for a year or sold permanently — a stark turnaround for a player who only joined at the beginning of the calendar year.
