Christian Pulisic has been a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing 2024–25 season for AC Milan. Now, the USMNT standout could face a significant setback as reports suggest Real Madrid are targeting one of his most important teammates.

Under managers Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao, Milan have failed to recapture the dominance they enjoyed during Stefano Pioli’s tenure. Aside from Pulisic, top names like Rafael Leao, Santiago Gimenez, and Joao Felix have struggled to make consistent impacts, contributing to the team’s underwhelming campaign.

Milan currently sit ninth in Serie A, eight points adrift of Champions League qualification with just four matches remaining. Barring a late-season miracle, the club will miss out on Europe’s premier competition—a blow that could impact finances and force the Rossoneri to consider major player departures. Real Madrid appear poised to capitalize on that vulnerability.

Real Madrid reportedly eyeing Theo Hernandez

According to Diario AS, Real Madrid have identified Theo Hernandez as a top target to reinforce the left-back position. The French defender checks several boxes for Los Blancos: experience at the top level, contract uncertainty, and familiarity with La Liga.

Hernandez previously spent the 2017–18 season with Real Madrid but failed to break into the first team at age 19. Since then, he has grown into one of Europe’s top full-backs, playing a key role at Milan and with the French national team. Despite a dip in form this season, he remains highly regarded and could be in line for a second chance in Madrid.

Though Milan fans have voiced criticism of Hernandez this year, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the club is still interested in extending his contract. However, those negotiations may depend on who takes over as head coach next season—and how quickly the front office moves to secure his future.

Hernandez is currently valued at €40 million by Transfermarkt. While that figure presents a challenge for Madrid’s financial planning, his current contract runs until June 2026, giving the Spanish giants leverage to push for a deal this summer.
