Barcelona’s sporting director and director of sporting institutional relations have flown to Italy today to convince Juventus officials that their €90 million offer for midfielder Paul Pogba should be accepted.
Although the La Liga side is in the midst of its presidential elections, the club has continued moving forward with its efforts to secure Pogba’s signature.
Juventus’ managing director Guiseppe Marotta has agreed to meet with the Barcelona officials to discuss what is understood to be an offer of around €80 million plus various add-ons.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has continually stated that his client will go to the highest bidder. However, the player himself is keen to join Barcelona and has told his representative that he wants to play alongside Lionel Messi.
While Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have all been listed as potential suitors, it is Barcelona who are the only true candidate for the midfielder’s services.
Since Barcelona are still under a FIFA-imposed transfer embargo, Pogba would not be able to officially join the reigning Spanish and European champions until January 2016.
The offer on the table from La Blaugrana is for the France international to sign now, but spend the entire 2015-16 campaign with Juventus before joining Barcelona in the summer of 2016.
While the player is eager to join the La Liga side, and the money being offered meets the criteria set by his agent and Juventus, the Serie A champions are under no obligation to sell the player this summer.
In October 2014, Pogba signed a contract extension with Juventus which tied him to the Turin club until June 2019.
A few months ago, Juventus reportedly rejected a €70 million bid for the 22-year-old, and have continually stated that it would take a bid of around €100 million for the club to sell one its most prized assets.
