Alternative Premier League, Gameweek 25: Manchester United Top Form Table

Arsenal overcame the APL’s form side away from home, Spurs and the Baggies shared the summit of the top-scorers podium and the bottom five sides are closer than ever.

Sunderland slipped from the top of the form table after losing late-on to Arsenal, who themselves have jumped up to fourth place following defeats for Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool. The Gunners have now picked up more points in their last two games then they did in the previous five combined.

But while the teams hovering around fourth place continue to struggle, Tottenham continue to pull away from their challengers. Spurs scored 8.27 for their five goal demolition of seventh placed Newcastle – a very high score for a home victory. Tottenham currently lie 13.80 points behind 2nd place and 17.46 above 4th place, so barring a major collapse or run of high scoring victories, it seems like the Lilywhites will finish where they’ve spent so much time this season – in third place.

In a rare piece of chance, two teams scored exactly the same amount of points for their efforts and both ended up as the top scorers for week 25. West Brom’s four goal win at Molineux left Wolves dumbstruck and the Baggies revelling in their sixth away win of the season. The win jumps them up to 13th place and 17.83 points above the bottom three. West Brom are currently the highest ranked midlands team in the APL after defeats for Wolves and Villa.

Blackburn, while recording a much needed win, blew their chance to put some distance between themselves and the struggling pack. Their game against QPR, which finished 3-2 and won Rovers 5.48 points, could have been so much better. At half-time with the score at 3-0 Blackburn were looking at a score of 6.47 points, a 4-0 final score would have won them 6.97, however QPR’s fight-back significantly reduced Rovers’ score and kept them in 19th place.

With all of the plaudits that Sunderland have received recently, it’s perhaps time to take a look at another team who are shooting up the league, Norwich City. Their fourth away win of the season has taken them up to 9th place, just 0.83 points behind Sunderland. The Canaries’ latest triumph was a more than impressive win at Swansea – a place that has proved notoriously difficult to visit this season.
