Atlético Madrid’s extra time victory over Liverpool in the second Leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 averaged a combined 980,000 viewers across TNT and Univision’s networks, making it the most-watched Champions League match on American television since the 2019 final. Overall, viewership for the round was down 18% on English-language television, and down 5% from FS1’s final year of coverage in 2018. On the Spanish-language side, Univision’s networks averaged 395,167, also down about 18% from 2019.
Univision’s coverage of the first legs of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals averaged 333,000 average viewers, peaking at 522,000 for Atlanta United’s match in Mexico City against Club América. This is an 82% increase in viewership from the 2019 quarterfinals, which averaged 182,000 viewers, peaking at just 222,000.
Liga MX’s final weekend of broadcasts prior to the league’s suspension due to the coronavirus saw a slight drop in viewership on Univision and UniMás from both networks’ average in 2020, with the four free-to-air matches averaging 747,000 viewers, about 9% below the average through early March. Viewership numbers for the Chivas-Monterey game on CBS Sports, ESPN Deportes, FOX Deportes and fubo Sports Network were not available.
