As soccer fandom continues to grow in the United States, Telemundo Deportes is taking unprecedented steps to cover the beautiful game in a multitude of ways across various platforms.
On October 14, the Spanish-language network revealed their plethora of programs catered to their digital audience. To continue to grow their online base of over 11 million, which includes their app, website, YouTube channel, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, Telemundo Deportes now offers for the first time ever digital content in English. The programs are tailored to fit the demands of their growing base of younger, bilingual sports fans. Three shows will be the focal point of their English-based programming.
Sports Ana Twist, hosted by Ana Jurka, provides a light-hearted look at the world of sports. The Honduran presenter combines wit and humor to cover topics with her unique point of view. Fans of the ESPN+ show Always Late with Katie Nolan will also enjoy Jurka’s commentary. Sports Ana Twist will air new episodes every Thursday on the Telemundo Deportes app, YouTube and Instagram.
Weekly Premier, available every Friday on Telemundo Deportes’ app, YouTube and Instagram, recaps the previous week in the Premier League as well as what to look for in the matches being played during the upcoming weekend. They will also highlight players, managers, derbies and the interesting storylines in the most popular sports league in the world.
La Liga Upside Down, available every Tuesday on the Telemundo Deportes app, YouTube and Instagram, provides an alternative universe where results from the weekend are changed to provide more interesting stories. Since the network does not have the rights to show LaLiga footage, the show provides a spin on reality where they make fantasy out of real events. With this angle, maybe Barcelona’s dominance in Spain will come to an end.
Telemundo Deportes also introduced linear programming, which will be extending live events and studio shows onto online programming. The network’s lineup of experts will provide weekly analysis and opinions on topical issues in the world of soccer. El VAR de Manolo and Tactica Pura, both available every Sunday on the Telemundo Deportes app, YouTube and Instagram, will star former Mexican international Manuel Sol. On El VAR de Manolo, the two-time Mexican Primera Division winner discuss the weekly controversies surrounding VAR in the Premier League.
