West Ham United recently released its home shirt for the 2014/15 season.

The unveiling of West Ham’s home shirt has been worth the wait. The shirt’s atypical design throws up a number of interesting talking points.

Unlike normal Hammers jerseys, the designers have done away with the traditional sky blue sleeves, instead opting for a claret shirt with sky blue horizontal pin stripes. Sky blue can be found on the V-neck collar and cuffs, as well as in Adidas’ signature three stripes down the sleeves.

Speaking of Adidas, the German sportswear supplier are returning for their second consecutive season with the Hammers. Their logo is on the chest, on the right hand side, in white. Similarly, UK-based foreign exchange broker Alpari are West Ham’s primary sponsor. Their logo is also white.

The shirt itself will look familiar to football kit enthusiasts; its design is based on the Adidas Condivo 14 template, which a number of other top-flight clubs across the world will wear this season.

The shorts of this new kit are sky blue, with claret detail, while the socks mirror the shirt – claret with horizontal pin stripes.

Overall, the Hammers have come up with a stylish and unique 2014/15 offering.

This kit may perhaps be particularly popular with the older generations of West Ham supporters. This minimalist style definitely evokes memories of the classic shirt of 1985/86, the season in which the East London club came third in the old First Division, their highest-ever league finish.

Just as they did last year, Adidas have done a fabulous job on this new strip. With their tremendous track record for elegant jersey designs, they’ve certainly served the Upton Park faithful well this season. This is sure to be a very popular Premier League jersey.
