Wayne Rooney Agrees New 5.5-Year Contract With Manchester United

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has agreed a new 5.5-year contract with Manchester United.

The contract negotiations have been happening for several weeks, and were reportedly held up due to discussions on image rights, but BBC Sport is reporting today that Rooney has agreed a new five-and-a-half-year contract that will keep the United and England striker at Old Trafford until the summer of 2019.

Rooney is 28-years-old, so the new deal will keep him at Manchester United until he’s 33. If he sees out his new contract, it’s likely that Rooney will hang up his boots as a Manchester United footballer after beginning his youth and early career at Everton.

With Nemanja Vidic leaving the club this summer, the new deal for Rooney will be a boost to David Moyes’s hopes of rebuilding his United side with Rooney an integral element of his plans.

The rumors were that Rooney’s new deal with United would net him £300,000 ($500,000) per week.
