London (AFP) – Swansea City signed the teenage half-brother of Icelandic football icon Eidur Gudjohnsen on Tuesday on a two-year scholarship.

Arnor Borg Gudjohnsen, 16, impressed on trial at the Premier League club earlier this season and will enter the Swansea academy later this year, British media said.

The midfielder will return to his Icelandic club Breidablik UBK in the mean time.

The teenage Gudjohnsen, whose compatriot Gylfi Sigurdsson has been Swansea’s star performer this term with nine goals and 11 assists, is the son of Arnor Gudjohnsen, who was capped 73 times and played for Belgian side Anderlecht.

Eidur, who is 38 and won his 88th and final appearance at Euro 2016 where Iceland memorably eliminated England from the competition, won the Champions League and Spanish title with Barcelona as well as the English Premier League crown with Chelsea.

He and Arnor made football history in 1996 when Eidur came off the bench to replace his father in Iceland’s 3-0 friendly victory over Estonia.
