Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic will not play again for the club this season after picking up an injury. The highly-rated teen has been a bright spot in manager Jurgen Klopp’s depleted midfield. Despite his age, Bajcetic has managed to play a significant role with the team in recent months.

Prior to the second leg Champions League fixture against Real Madrid, Klopp stated that Bajcetic would miss the match. “With Stefan, it is a stress response, which is absolutely bad,” said the manager. “So, he doesn’t feel a lot. It’s only a little bit but he is now out for I don’t know exactly how long. We have just to let it settle then and we will see when he can come back. [It’s] high up, around the adductor.”

Nevertheless, Bajcetic revealed on Thursday that his season is over because of the setback. “Unfortunately I’ve picked up an injury that will keep me out until the end of the season,” Bajcetic stated on Instagram. “It’s very sad to say goodbye to this amazing season for me but I understand this is part of football and will only make me stronger physically and mentally.”

“I would also like to say thank you to you Reds for all the support through the season and I assure you I will do my best to be back stronger than ever.”

Midfielder received new contract after one EPL start

Despite Liverpool’s relatively poor season, Bajcetic has been a bright spot in the middle of the pitch. The 18-year-old Spanish youth international was initially brought into the team thanks to several key injuries in midfield. Thiago, Naby Keita, and Arthur Melo have all missed significant time due to various setbacks throughout the season.

Klopp’s faith in Bajcetic was evident when the manager rewarded the teen with a new contract in January. He received the new deal after just one Premier League start. The fresh contract will keep the midfielder on Merseyside until the summer of 2027.
