Spanish Football Association denies knowledge of Real Madrid transfer ban

The Spanish Football Association (RFEF) has denied knowledge of a FIFA-imposed two-window transfer ban on Real Madrid for irregularities in the signing of youth players, according to Marca.

Late Tuesday, it was reported by Cadena SER that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were to be handed transfer bans beginning with the upcoming summer window and concluding at the end of the January signing period.

The two La Liga clubs were said to have committed similar offenses to those which have seen Barcelona banned from signing any new players until January 2016.

Today, the Spanish publication Marca reports that its sources within the RFEF have denied knowledge of an impending transfer embargo on Real Madrid. However, their sources did confirm Atletico Madrid were implicated in the matter and have been notified of the ruling from FIFA.

Atletico Madrid have denied being contacted and are said to be “confident of having acted properly” in their dealings with youth players.

If either or both club is handed a transfer ban, they would likely appeal the ruling from FIFA to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

This action would temporarily postpone the ban, thus allowing either club to sign players during the upcoming summer window – similar to the situation which saw Barcelona sign a number of players last summer.
