It’s incredible to believe, but Robert Lewandowski would have signed for Blackburn Rovers in 2010 if it wasn’t for an Icelandic volcanic ash cloud that ruined the plans.
Robert Lewandowski was playing for Polish side Lech Poznan in 2010. He was due to fly into the country to meet with Blackburn representatives to discuss a transfer, but due to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, all flights were canceled. As a result, Borussia Dortmund were able to sneak in and sign the Polish striker instead.
A transfer fee of £4 million would have been enough for Blackburn Rovers to sign Lewandowski.
“He got the invitation [from Blackburn], but due to the cancellation of the flights he could not go, and it makes no sense to drive,” said Lewandowski’s agent, Cezary Kucharski.
Imagine where Blackburn Rovers could have been today if Lewandowski had signed for the club that is currently near the bottom of the nPower Championship.
