As Milan prepares for a new campaign with Christian PulisicSantiago Gimenez, and Rafael Leao at the forefront of its attack, the club has finally finalized a deal that could reshape its midfield – and it comes with a historical twist. After much fanfare and drama, the Rossoneri have secured one of Europe’s most sought-after young midfielders, whose signing has already made headlines as the most expensive departure in Belgian soccer history.

After weeks of back-and-forth negotiations, AC Milan has officially announced the signing of Ardon Jashari from Club Brugge in a deal worth $42.5 million, including $39.2 million upfront and up to $3.3 million in add-ons. The 22-year-old Swiss international arrives at San Siro on a long-term deal through June 2030, capping off a tense and complex transfer saga.

Jashari, who arrived in Italy this week, passed his medical and was already spotted training with his new teammates ahead of the club’s friendlies against Leeds United and Chelsea. “AC Milan announces the permanent signing of footballer Ardon Jashari from Club Brugge. The Swiss midfielder has signed a contract with the Rossoneri until 30 June 2030,” the club said in an official statement.

Jashari’s move doesn’t just bolster Milan’s squad — it breaks a league record. The Swiss-Albanian midfielder has become the most expensive transfer in Belgian Jupiler Pro League history, surpassing the previous record of $40.5 million paid by the Rossoneri themselves for Charles De Ketelaere in 2022.

Despite significant interest from the Premier League and Saudi Arabia, Jashari reportedly pushed hard to join the San Siro outfit, turning down offers from FulhamManchester United, and Saudi side Neom. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the player’s insistence on wearing the Rossoneri colors played a key role in unlocking the final deal, even after earlier bids fell short.

Rising star with a mature game

Jashari is widely regarded as one of the most complete midfielders to emerge from the Belgian top-flight in recent years. After moving from Luzern to Club Brugge in 2024 for $6.5 million, he quickly rose through the ranks, helping the club win the Belgian Cup and reach the Champions League round of 16.

His performances earned him the Player of the Season award, and his market value skyrocketed. In 52 appearances for Brugge, he tallied four goals and six assists, operating primarily as a box-to-box midfielder with excellent passing range and defensive instincts.

Jashari has also made four senior appearances for Switzerland, and his tactical maturity has impressed observers across the continent. His ability to transition between defense and attack could make him a vital link between Milan’s seasoned midfield and its dynamic frontline.
