Chelsea could be looking at a complete squad overhaul heading into the summer transfer window. Reports in England claim that as many as eight first team players may depart the club prior to the 2023/24 season.

One of these players could very well be Christian Pulisic.

Inconsistencies hindered Pulisic playing time at Chelsea

The United States men’s national team star hasn’t been a smash hit since his arrival to west London in 2019. Pulisic has failed to nail down a starting spot under multiple managers at the club over the last few years. However, injuries have hindered the attacker’s chances of playing regularly. In fact, the American has missed 55 total matches due to various illnesses or injuries since his transfer to Chelsea.

Because of this injury history and lack of goal output, Chelsea will most likely be looking to sell Pulisic this summer. His current contract with the club runs out in 2024. This means that the Blues will most likely have to accept a lower transfer fee for the player.

Seven other Blues players could depart this summer

Along with Pulisic, the Mirror is claiming that seven other players could be sold this summer. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech are also on the chopping block.

Team owner Todd Boehly has spent freely during his first two transfer windows at the club. However, the Blues are still underperforming and now have a bloated squad. Chelsea had an estimated net spend of nearly $600 million during the current campaign. Despite this, the west London outfit remain in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Kante is the only player of the aforementioned octet that will be out of contract in June. There have been rumors that the midfielder may sign a contract extension, but this has not yet materialized. Selling the remaining seven players could, however, provide the club with a decent chunk of change. Liverpool are already reportedly considering making bids for Mount and Gallagher.
