Superstar Lionel Messi claims that he endured a tough freshman season with PSG last year.  The former Barcelona champion departed sunny Spain for Paris last summer.  Despite winning the Ligue 1 title with his new club, and collecting 14 assists in league play, the striker had one of his lowest goal totals of his illustrious career.

In fact, Messi scored just six total goals in Ligue 1 during the 2021/22 campaign.  It was his lowest total of league scores since the 2004/05 season with Barca.  The Argentina international, however, only played 17 LaLiga games during that particular campaign.

Nevertheless, Messi now appears to be back to the normal dominating player of his past.  “I feel good,” stated Messi after Argentina’s victory over Honduras Friday night.  “It’s different from last year and I knew it was going to be like that.”

“Last year, as I already said, I had a bad time,” he continued.  “I never finished finding myself and this time is different.  I arrived with a different mindset, more adapted to the club, to the locker room, to the game, to my teammates.  The truth is that I feel very good, and I’m enjoying myself again.”

The 35-year-old star certainly seems to be back on track.  Messi has already scored four goals and added seven assists in just eight Ligue 1 fixtures with PSG so far this season.  He currently leads the French league in assists, successful dribbles, total shots, and is eighth in goals scored.

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has also noticed the difference with his player.  “I think that PSG have found a way to play that understands him and I think he has taken a step ahead in his team,” Scaloni said prior to the Honduras match.  “We are very happy with how things are currently going.”

Messi will be looking to bring PSG their elusive Champions League trophy this season.
