New Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants to reunite with Mason Mount. The duo previously worked together at Chelsea during the German’s 20-month stay in west London. Tuchel was sacked by the Premier League side early in the current campaign and eventually became head coach of Bayern last week.

Midfielder in the middle of intense contract negotiations

Reports surfaced earlier in the week that Tuchel has plans to pry Mount from Chelsea this summer. The Times claimed that the German is hoping to take advantage of the player’s current contract issue at Chelsea. Mount only has one more year remaining on his deal and is in negotiations with the west London club. However, these discussions are apparently not advancing at the moment.

The Daily Mail says that Mount previously rejected a $247,000-per-week contract with remain with Chelsea. The midfielder supposedly wants to be in the $371,000-a-week rage that Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly currently earn. Tuchel is hoping that the two ultimately can’t come to an agreement on a deal.

Mason Mount reportedly open to joining Bayern this summer

Now, more reports are coming out of England that suggest Mount is open to leaving Chelsea to re-join Tuchel at Bayern. The England international played some of his best soccer while Tuchel was at the club. In fact, Mount finished as the club’s top scorer in the Premier League last season. He even won the Chelsea Player of the Year award in each of the last two campaigns. However, the midfielder has managed just three top flight goals during the 2022/23 season.

Bayern will certainly have some top competition to sign Mount this summer though. Liverpool, Juventus, and Manchester United are all reportedly interested in the player as well. Liverpool need to completely revamp their midfield and could use Mount as a major piece of the puzzle.

Chelsea’s financial issues could also play a big part in Mount’s future. The club posted a $148 million loss for the 2021/22 season. This obviously does not even include the massive spending under owner Todd Boehly this season as well. Chelsea could look to receive over $60 million for Mount should they not ultimately agree on a new contract.
