Sean Dyche will take over as the manager of Everton Football Club. The former Watford and Burnley boss succeeds Frank Lampard in the role as manager. Everton sacked Lampard earlier in the week following a series of poor results.

Sean Dyche brings plenty of Premier League experience to Everton

The 51-year-old Dyche remained out of a job since April 2022. Burnley sacked the English manager with the club threatening relegation. Burnley sat 18th in the Premier League table at the time of Dyche’s firing. Despite sacking Dyche, Burnley finished 18th, suffering relegation to the Championship. Dyche was previously with the club for nearly a decade.

Everton will now hope that Dyche can save his new club from a similar relegation. The Toffees have lost six of their last seven top flight matches under Lampard. In fact, they have not collected a victory in league play since a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace three months ago. Everton are currently 19th in the table, two points from safety.

While Dyche is about to takeover, the Merseyside club previously also held discussions with Marcelo Bielsa as well. The former Leeds manager is also currently unemployed. Leeds sacked him with the Whites struggling in the Premier League last season. Bielsa had some interesting requests during negotiations for the Everton job.

Bielsa asked to coach U21s before joining senior team

According to a report by The Athletic, the Argentine coach apparently wanted to take the reigns of Everton’s U21 team before transitioning to the senior squad in the summer. Bielsa discussed the proposal with Toffees executives on Thursday, but the idea obviously didn’t sit well with the club.

The 67-year-old coach wanted time to work with the youngsters first at the Merseyside club. Bielsa’s plan, while certainly unconventional, is interesting. Having a feel for the club’s youth setup could help the coach prepare for a full 2022/23 season.

Nevertheless, Dyche is now about to take the reins at Everton. The manager will be thrown straight into the mix, as the Toffees next face Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League.
