Fresh from the news that its appeal against a two-window transfer ban was rejected by FIFA, Barcelona is considering signing Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund and Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina, according to reports emanating from the Catalan press.
The transfer ban is set to take effect at the beginning of September 2014 and end at the start of January 2016. The Spanish club has already announced that it will appeal its transfer embargo to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Unless the CAS overturns or reduces the sanctions imposed on the La Liga club by FIFA, Barcelona is set to be absent from the coming January transfer window, as well as next summer.
With that said, reports in Spain are speculating that Barcelona will attempt to push through more transfer deal during the final ten days of the current window.
It is being suggested that the Spanish giants are aiming to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus and Fiorentina’s Juan Cuadrado this summer, then loan the players back to their respective clubs for the 2014-15 season. Barcelona would then take the players back at the beginning of next season.
The La Liga club wants to have agreements in place with the boards of both clubs and have clear references to the dates of the deals to satisfy the terms of FIFA’s sanctions.
Barcelona was supposed to be banned for the current transfer window, but that embargo was lifted while the club had its appeal heard by FIFA.
During that time, Barcelona were able to sign Luis Suarez (£75m from Liverpool), Thomas Vermaelen (£15m from Arsenal), Jeremy Mathieu (£15.8m from Valencia), Claudio Bravo (£7.2m from Real Sociedad), Ivan Rakitic (undisclosed from Sevilla) and Marc-Andre ter Stegen (undisclosed from Borussia Monchengladbach).
