With the US Men’s National Team having played its final game of 2015, it’s time to look back and recap the TV viewing audiences for every game this year.
While attendance at every game this year (except two) was strong, we live in an age where the TV dollar is one of the most important measuring sticks. And with FOX Sports and ESPN signing a new 8 year deal for the rights to MLS and USMNT games, there’s more pressure than ever to generate significant viewing figures.
During 2015, there were six games that had over one million viewers. Those are numbers that are usually only seen during World Cup years (there were seven last year). It’s just further proof that soccer is growing here in the US.
Overall, for 2015, the average number of viewers for a USMNT game on English-language television was 728,550, while the total number of viewers for the year 2015 was almost 15 million in total (14,871,000 to be exact).
