Umbro has been keeping the new England home shirt under tight wraps before it’s official unveiling in the friendly against Slovakia on March 28. But several pictures have leaked of what is allegedly the shirt in question.
The web site Todo Sobre Camisetas has the scoop. Instead of incorporating the usual navy blue, the design by Umbro includes red and white only. It looks similar to an Arsenal shirt, only in reverse.
As far as England shirt designs go, this must be one of the worst home shirts ever designed. The sleeves are okay, but the front of the shirt resembles something you would see on the local AYSO pitch, not the fields of South Africa for the 2010 World Cup.
The red line around the three lions badge cheapens the design. The collar is unattractive. The placement of the Umbro logo above the England crest makes the shirt design look unbalanced.
Instead of using navy blue, the shirt uses gray as a trim color around the neck and back.
On a scale of 1 to 10, this shirt design is 3 or 4. It’ll do nothing to fill England with confidence. And it’ll certainly be a low point in the history of football shirts for England fans.
