Manchester United’s Bastian Schweinsteiger has accepted the charge of violent conduct from The FA and will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect.

The incident occurred during Manchester United’s game last Saturday against West Ham United. Schweinsteiger elbowed Winston Reid in the face in the 49th minute, knocking the New Zealander directly to the ground.

According to a statement issued by The FA, “Bastian Schweinsteiger will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after he accepted an FA charge for violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.”

The suspension couldn’t have come at a worse time for United. After getting knocked out of the UEFA Champions League this week, they also have an injury crisis where several players will be out of action.

Manchester United’s match this Saturday is against Bournemouth (live on NBC at 12:30pm ET).
