Andres Cantor Named Lead Commentator for Telemundo's EPL Coverage

EXCLUSIVE: Andres Cantor, one of the most recognizable soccer commentators on US television, will be the lead commentator for Telemundo’s coverage of the English Premier League beginning with the 2013-14 season.

Cantor is best known for his signature “GOOOOLLLLLLLL” call. The commentator, who began his career in 1979, will commentate many of the top Premier League matches that will be televised on Telemundo/Mun2 over the course of the 2013-14 season. Telemundo/Mun2 are scheduled to air 76 games.

“We are very excited to be able to offer Barclays Premier League matches in Spanish to our audience,” said Jorge Hidalgo, Sr. Executive Vice President of Deportes Telemundo.  “Soccer is a clear passion point for U.S. Hispanics and we look forward to providing coverage, in partnership with NBC Sports, of this world class league as its importance to our demographic continues to grow.”

The plans for the Spanish-language Premier League broadcasts will include matches on broadcast television via Telemundo, and on cable with mun2. Combined, the networks will carry over 70 matches and will focus on key match-ups and matches featuring Hispanic players who are playing abroad in England.

Cantor first used his signature ‘Gol’ call during the 1990 World Cup that was played in Italy, but he became most famous for it during the 1994 World Cup that was staged in the United States of America.
