Following last night’s 5-2 victory against Japan, the United States Women’s National Team stole the headlines on today’s newspapers across the country.
Papers from all over the country featured pictures and headlines expressing the excitement felt after the United States captured their third World Cup trophy, the most in the history of the Women’s World Cup.

Arizona Republic
The Arizona Republic’s headline “WORLD CHAMPIONS” is front and center with a picture of locals watching the game as well as a group picture of the team hoisting the trophy.
LA Daily News
Opting for a great solo picture of Carli Lloyd, the Los Angeles Daily News features the Golden Ball trophy winner on the front page.
Miami Herald
The Miami Herald chose a great headline to accompany the team-trophy picture, “WITHOUT DOUBT, WORLD’S BEST”.
Chicago Tribune
“UNBELIEVABLE” is the appropriate headline used by the Chicago Tribune with a picture of the entire team with the World Cup trophy.
Rochester Democrat and Chronicle
Abby Wambach’s hometown paper, the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, featured the captain holding an American flag after the game.
The Oregonian
Portland, a typical hotbed for soccer in the United States, selected a team picture holding up the World Cup trophy to take up half the front page. Accompanying the picture is a fantastic headline, “On top at the World”.
Houston Chronicle
The Houston Chronicle features a great team picture and a heartwarming article about a young fan wanting to see her favorite player Tobin Heath score a goal to help win the World Cup.
The Seattle Times
My personal favorite front page from today is the Seattle Times, which features a picture of the team running across the field with the headline, “Wonderful World”.
Between increased viewing numbers and the large amount of media coverage following the World Cup win, there’s no doubt that women’s soccer and soccer in general is growing in the United States.
