It was a full week of action in Europe. Champions League, UEFA Cup, and La Liga action. Its been awhile since there has been a La Liga Team Of The Week but considering the events of this week its time to award one. Remember that the TOW played matches and/or made headlines during the calendar week of Feb. 23 – March 1. The winner is:
Club Atlético de Madrid
The team known as Los Colchoneros stunned Spain with a 4-3 win versus Barcelona at the Vicente Calderon. The victory was the most surprising result on the continent as Diego Forlan & Kun Aguero each scored twice to defeat Barcelona and help their city rivals, Real Madrid creep closer to the top of the table. Atlético did disappoint earlier in the week when they drew 2-2 to FC Porto at home in the UEFA Champions League and while usually that doesn’t make for a TOW crowning, beating the best team in Europe more than makes up for it. Well, Barca probably isn’t the best team in Europe anymore as Atlético proved. For their stunning victory of league leading Barcelona, Club Atlético De Madrid is the Week 25 La Liga Team Of The Week.
