If you are seeking accommodations for the World Cup, hotels in Doha are probably your first thought.

At the same time, the hundreds of thousands of fans making the trip to Qatar for the World Cup probably have the same idea. Therefore, options are somewhat limited in regards to where you can stay in Qatar. That is, at least, by the standard understanding of accommodations.

There are a number of options available for those making the trip out to Doha for the world’s biggest tournament. Fan villages, apartments, villas, cruise ships and even other countries are all suitable replacements at the disposal of fans for the World Cup.

However, if you are set on staying at a hotel for the familiarity, there are just a set number of those with availability remaining. In fact, if you plan on staying in a hotel for the entire World Cup from November 20 to December 20, there is no availability. That is according to the Qatar 2022 website.

Consequently, there are select dates for select hotels. Here is what that means for those looking to book.

Hotels in Doha

Of the 12 options with dates available, each is in Doha, or on the outskirts of it. The farthest of those is the Retaj Al Rayyan on the West Bay, which is just over $300 per night. This is the closest to the downtown area of Doha, even though the majority of the hotels are closer to the city center. In turn, those hotels are also closer to the majority of the World Cup stadiums in the south of Qatar.

Of course, the 2022 World Cup is accessible practically from anywhere you can find a place to stay. The majority of the games are in stadiums that surround Doha. The one exception is Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. Even then, it is just 31 miles (50 km) from the city center and 28 miles (45 km) from the West Bay area of Doha.

Plus, the Qatar World Cup has free public transport using the Hayya card. This provides an easy commute at a variety of hubs between the stadiums.

Now, looking at the center of Doha itself, the remaining options are somewhat of a dip in quality. Still, that means they are cheaper per night. The cheapest of those is 374 QAR per night, or just over $100 per night. The Qatar 2022 website calls these budget hotels, as seen by the price tag per evening. Therefore, the four options that are 374QAR per night are all generally just a place to sleep.

The remaining hotels are all under $200 per night, with the exception of the Retaj al Rayyan hotel. Each hotel room can sleep multiple guests who can split the price. Moreover, some options, including the LaVilla Inn Hotel are actually apartment-style hotels in Doha. They come equipped with full kitchens after a long day out in Qatar watching soccer or simply exploring.

Reservations

It is strongly advised to book accommodations as quickly as possible. As seen with the limited availability, hotels in Doha are quickly being snapped up. Therefore, use the Qatar 2022 website to view accommodations.

Make sure to have all the necessary documents and checklists in order to get into Qatar. This includes the ever-important Hayya Card which you need to get into the country and each game while at the World Cup.

Another option worth considering is to book a room in Oman via Vrbo or AirBnb. By the way, the flight time between Muscat, Oman and Doha, Qatar is just one hour and thirty minutes.
