Liverpool is seemingly the frontrunner to sign Alexis Mac Allister this summer. The Daily Mail even believes that his Brighton & Hove Albion teammates see his future with the Merseyside club. It is widely expected that the 24-year-old Argentina international will depart the South Coast this summer. This is despite the fact that Mac Allister still has multiple years on his current contract.
Soccer transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s club has already approached the player.
Midfielder has become hot property on the South Coast
Mac Allister’s stock has risen quickly since his arrival to the Premier League side in early 2020. The versatile midfielder can play multiple positions across midfield. He has even filled in up front for the dynamic Brighton team at times. Mac Allister has increased his scoring in each season with the Seagulls since a move from Boca Juniors. During the current campaign, the Argentine racked up 10 goals in 33 total appearances for his club.
There’s no secret that Liverpool need to retool their midfield. They currently have an aging core group in the middle of the pitch and need reinforcements this summer. The Merseyside club is losing Naby Keita, Arthur Melo, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin and James Milner as well. All of these players will be out of contract in late June. Milner is reportedly set to sign for Brighton on a free transfer.
Liverpool could shell out up to $88 million for Mac Allister
The Reds will, however, not get Mac Allister for a bargain. Brighton brass are tough negotiators and a fee for the star could reach $88 million. The Seagulls previously quickly turned down an $80 million offer from Arsenal for fellow midfielder Moises Caicedo in January.
While the aforementioned potential fee is a huge sum of money, it would be cheaper than pursuing Jude Bellingham. Liverpool previously pulled out of the race to sign the teen due to his rumored $110 million price tag. The Reds could essentially sign two solid players for the price of the world-class England international.
