ONE World Sports will premiere A Bridge to Cuba, a documentary following NASL team New York Cosmos and their journey to Havana, Cuba, on Saturday, Nov. 7th.

Seamus O’Brien, founder and chairman of ONE World Sports, also owns the Cosmos.

The network traveled to Cuba alongside the team in order to telecast their friendly against the Cuban national team, capturing the first visit of a US professional sports team to Cuban soil since the US lifted its trade embargo in Dec. 2014.

Shortly after the trip, diplomatic relations were officially restored between the two countries for the first time since 1961.

“When we embarked on this trip to Cuba, we knew we were in a unique position to have an insider’s view of history being made,” said Joel Feld, ONE World Sports Executive Vice President, Programming & Production.

A Bridge to Cuba includes exclusive footage ofa number of high profile athletes who accompanied the Cosmos, including Pelé, current striker and former Real Madrid star Raúl and NASL team owner Carmelo Anthony.

The last time a soccer team played in Cuba was in 1978 when the now-defunct Chicago Sting visited, and despite winning 4-1, the Cosmos were met by a crowd who were excited for the match, sitting through pretty heavy rainfall the entire game.
