Erik ten Hag eyes Man United summer sell-off, says report

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag appears to be ready to unload up to 15 total players this summer. The Red Devils were knocked out of the Europa League Thursday night thanks to a 3-0 demoralizing defeat at the hands of Sevilla. Ten Hag labeled the disappointing display “unacceptable” in his postgame interview.

Club’s season dependent on Rashford’s goals

The club has endured a bit of an up-and-down season so far. In his first season at the helm, ten Hag started slowly. The Red Devils did not reach the top four of the Premier League table until after Christmas. However, United have maintained its place in a potential Champions League spot ever since. They collected the Carabao Cup trophy in February as well. Nevertheless, the club seems far too reliant on Marcus Rashford.

United’s uptick in play this season coincided with Rashford’s scoring. The England international has managed to score 28 goals in all competitions so far this season. 20 of these scores have come since the World Cup in Qatar ended. In fact, the Red Devils have won 11 of 13 Premier League matches when their star scores. However, they have managed just seven victories in 17 top-flight matches without Rashford on the scoresheet.

Up to 15 senior squad members could depart United in summer

The Guardian is now claiming that ten Hag will be looking to overhaul his squad this summer. Anthony Elanga, Fred, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek could all soon be on their way out. Maguire, Sancho, Martial and Fred cost the club nearly $300 million in transfer fees alone.

Along with these eight currently in the squad, on-loan players such as Eric Bailly, Dean Henderson, Hannibal Mejbri, Alex Telles, and Brandon Williams are all expected to depart the team. Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe are also both out of contract in June.

Despite the need for an overhaul, ten Hag did have a net spend of about $250 million during his first season with the club. This included massive deals for Antony, Casemiro, and Lisandro Martinez. It remains to be seen how much money the Dutchman will have at his disposal this summer though. The Glazer family is currently in negotiations to sell the club.
