The summer has not even started, but talk around potential signings in the transfer window keeps Real Madrid fans alert. Rumors about Enzo Fernández’s possible departure from Chelsea are now in focus after the midfielder gave an interview in which he praised Madrid, Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić.

Fernández said on Luzu TV when asked which city he would like to live in: “I always tell my wife that if I had to choose a European city, it would be Madrid. It’s like Buenos Aires, the food, everything…”

His form at Chelsea has not been the same since Enzo Maresca was fired. That, along with reports that the dressing room does not like some of his complaints with teammates on the field, could open the door for him to leave the club, according to Marca.

Speaking well about Madrid could also be seen as a nice gesture toward Atlético Madrid, not just Real Madrid. However, when he had to choose the best players he has faced, the names he picked are icons of one club.

As a midfielder, it was not just another match for Fernández when he faced perhaps the best duo of the last few years. His style of play also resembles some of the things they do, so his choice was an easy one.

Fernández said: “Because I play in the same position, I always try to watch the midfielders on the other team and I choose Kroos. I play against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu and he and Modrić are incredible. They have a lot of quality.”

Fernández’s contract

Even if Fernández would like to leave Chelsea, it will not be easy. The club has been known for signing very long contracts with young players, and he is no exception. His deal does not expire until 2032. His price also will not be low, as 100 million euros seems to be the floor, with Chelsea having invested 120 million euros to sign him from Benfica.
