2016 US Soccer crest has been leaked and it looks awesome

An image of the US Soccer crest that will be unveiled next year has been leaked on the Internet.

The reliable FootyHeadlines website has revealed the crest that the USMNT and USWNT will adopt moving forward.

The current crest has been used since 1993. The generic soccer ball has been dropped in place and replaced with a simpler but more memorable design (as you can see above and below).

The only question I have for US Soccer is what took them so long.

What’s your opinion about the new USA crest? Share your feedback in the comments section below and on social media.

    Sterile and corporate. It blows.

By “awesome”, I assume you mean hideous.

The Centennial crest was even worse but at least that was thankfully only for one year.

Sorry, I have to disagree that this looks great. This looks very plain. As one of my friends said, it looks like something done when one is just learning graphic design and done in MS Paint. I get sentiment that they wanted to use the old crest but I wish they would have come up with something better.

      August 19, 2015 at 1:52 pm

Exactly. I mean, there’s nothing in the design that even indicates it’s a soccer logo!

Nice modern take on the centennial crest. Good job.

  5. Juan

    August 7, 2015 at 10:50 am

Picture this with a star above it, that would be rad

I like the new design, but it should have a soccer ball in it. We are promoting soccer, and the new design can be worn by any sport.

Looks like it could be a locator tag of some sort in a mapping app. Very generic. And anything with stripes should have at least 11.

    • StellaWasAlwaysDown

      August 12, 2015 at 2:21 pm

Well, since the stripes ARE representing the original colonies ala the actual American flag, I think they should be given a pass. 😉

I much prefer the one on the left- at least it’s soccer (futbol) relevant! The one on the right could be for anything, any sport, business, or whatever- totally uninspired.

you call that new design exciting? what a joke

    the current crest isn’t terrible

a better option would be to take the centennial crest and work a soccer theme into it => maybe make the background a faint hexagonal soccer ball pattern

Centennial crest!!! Centennial Crest!!! Centennial Crest!!! Centennial Crest!!!

How many more time we have to repeat it?

    Centennial Crest!!! Centennial Crest!!!

  11. David

    August 6, 2015 at 12:31 pm

I think its much better than the current crest, but not a huge fan of the new design. I wish U.S. Soccer would listen to the fans and permanently use the centennial crest.

The important thing is IT’S NOT THE OLD CREST. Can’t stress that’s enough.

In regards to the badge itself, like most others I prefer the centennial but this is close enough.

Again, it’s not the old crest, it’s not the old crest, it’s not the old crest.

Nothing great- how can someone tell this is for the USA soccer team and not the badminton team? No representation of soccer on the crest.

  14. Jameson Pester

    August 6, 2015 at 10:39 am

Generic, boring, ugly, absolute crap. Looks like it took about 10 minutes to come up with this design. How about some more effort, USSF? I hope we aren’t stuck with this thing for decades.

    • Fulhamish

      August 6, 2015 at 12:20 pm

Someone probably said the same thing 20 years ago so Nike stuck a flying soccer ball in the middle of the badge.

It’s an improvement, but it lacks impact and gravitas. Compare this to the German, Argentine or English crests and it falls short. Its a very good idea to remove the soccer ball, but it needs a symbol of America. Why not a Bald/American Eagle, for example? Many other countries have such symbols on their crests and it gives them an impact. This is rather generic.

I don’t like the new one. I might be in the minority, but I love our current crest and would like it to stay.

  17. StellaWasAlwaysDown

    August 6, 2015 at 8:21 am

I never had a problem with the soccer ball on the old crest. I didn’t like the stars. This new design looks more professional, but I think they could do much better. Heck, even the centennial badge blows this new one away. Put “USA” on top of that and be done lol.

  18. Tim

    August 6, 2015 at 8:03 am

I dont care much for the current crest but this has to be a joke right?

  19. Robert Wilson

    August 6, 2015 at 7:22 am

Yea, really creative guys. No indication of the sport or it’s history…no appreciation of the game. So US Soccer paid some firm a few hundred thousand dollars and this is what they came up with? I’ll still wear my old shirt thank you very much.

      August 6, 2015 at 12:42 pm

Nike probably told them what to do like they told UCONN to change their logo from an actually Siberian Husky to a Timber Wolf looking Husky.

  20. toryblue

    August 6, 2015 at 6:16 am

    awesome? it looks ridiculous.

  21. nickos

    August 6, 2015 at 4:21 am

looks good but i think USA should follow australia lead and call their federation football not soccer get into the real world..change MLS name…who cares if idiot nfl is called football we created and invented football not those wannabe drug addicts nfl players..i bet if they even attempted to change the name stupid nfl wankers would sue em judge judy bunch of p00fs..jealous morons just like AFL in aus

attitudes like these are part of why average Americans can’t stand soccer or soccer fans. you’ll get nowhere with that unearned sense of entitlement towards the name of the sport. or by insulting very popular domestic sports. there’s nothing wrong with calling it soccer.

    • Chris

      August 6, 2015 at 12:26 pm

I’m one of those people that believes we shouldn’t even be calling it soccer or football and honor the first people who played the game, the Chinese. Zúqiú sounds way better and rolls off the tongue easier than soccer or football.

  22. Javier

    August 6, 2015 at 2:26 am

Better, but anything in comparison to the Centennial Crest falls short. The fans are extremely vocal about wanting it but it looks to have been retired for life.

    • CTBlues

      August 6, 2015 at 12:38 pm

The only thing I could think of is that the Centennial crest was too generic to trademark.

      • Juan

        August 7, 2015 at 10:46 am

        us rugby has the rights

  23. Jibber

    August 5, 2015 at 11:26 pm

so they basically took the nike US basketball logo and flipped it upside down. wow.. creative!!

    • TiLoBrown

      August 6, 2015 at 7:41 am

Almost the same as USA Hockey too, guess they’re trying to be more uniformed across all sports. Makes sense, but I dont like any of them

    • Creek

      August 6, 2015 at 11:35 am

It looks absolutely nothing like the USA Basketball logo, other than they both say USA on them.

      • CTBlues

        August 6, 2015 at 12:35 pm

Look at the USA basketball jersey and the giant USA on the chest looks very similar.

  24. CTBlues

    August 5, 2015 at 11:00 pm

It’s a huge improvement which I like but it the font looks very similar to one Nike already uses for the US Men’s basketball team.

Tell nike to take a hike. Say no to Phil! 🙂

Much better … now let’s get a new kit. The USWNT white was OK, but that fade-to-blue is no bueno.

    • Creek

      August 6, 2015 at 11:31 am

The blue jersey is way, way better than the stupid white, black and highlighter yellow socks.
