Glasgow (AFP) – Mark Warburton says Rangers must be more clinical in front of goal as they slipped up in the Scottish Premiership for the seventh time this season.
Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw away to bottom of the table Ross County, who remain the only team in Scotland’s four divisions never to have been beaten by the Glasgow giants in the league following a goalless draw at Ibrox earlier in the season.
Veteran defender Clint Hill capitalised on some poor defending to power home a header in the eighth minute but the visitors missed a number of chances to add to their tally before County claimed an equaliser in the 26th minute through Andrew Davies.
Warburton, who changed his entire frontline in the second half as he chased a winner, bemoaned his side’s finishing in front of goal.
“We’re disappointed as a group today,” he said.
“We got the start we wanted and we had four, five, six counter-attacks and we weren’t clinical enough.
“I just felt our level of performance wasn’t where it needed to be but despite that we had enough chances in the first half to be out of sight and we have got to be more clinical.
“We’ve got to hurt teams. That is what we talk about it training and today we weren’t clinical enough,” added the 54-year-old Englishman.
It is seventh time Rangers have dropped points in their 12 league games since their return to the Scottish Premiership after a four year hiatus and leaves them in third spot trailing bitter rivals Celtic, who have a game in hand, by a massive 11 points.
Just last week Warburton was full of praise for his players after they put in their best performance of the season in a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock.
However, Rangers have failed to win more than two games on the bounce this season as they struggle to readjust to life back in the Scottish top flight.
“Our level of performance was nowhere near as good as last week’s was and we have to ask why,” Warburton said.
“We must move the ball quicker and take care with our decision making so it was not a pleasing performance in that respect but we did enough to win the game of football.”
