Univision Deportes Acquires Spanish-Language Rights to Copa America 2016

Univision Deportes has acquired the exclusive Spanish-language rights in the United States to the first-ever Copa America Centenario, which will be played in the summer of 2016 throughout the US and will feature the best teams from CONCACAF and CONMEBOL.

The 2016 edition of Copa America will celebrate 100 years of the tournament. The first edition of Copa America was held in 1916 in Argentina.

The long-rumored tournament, as we reported earlier this year, will be played at stadiums across the United States during the summer of 2016. Soccer fans will be able to watch Euro 2016 during the daytime and attend Copa America games at night.

Despite a report to the contrary, a Univision Deportes representative confirmed the network has not acquired rights to Copa America 2020.

The teams to play in Copa America 2016 include USA, Mexico, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, as well as four other countries to be determined.

The next Copa America will be in 2015. Viewers in the United States will be able to watch that tournament (in English and Spanish) on beIN SPORTS.
