Smorgasbord of Premier League News

Here are a few stories of interest on a sunny Sunday as we edge closer to summer (it’s already here in South Florida). Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

  • Key Manchester City supporters were invited to a meeting with club executives last week to get a sneak preview of the new Manchester City kits designed by Umbro. Read about their account on Blue Moon. In the coming days/weeks, EPL Talk hopes to have a sneak preview of the new shirts available.
  • Speaking of Manchester City, the club has expressed a desire to capture the hearts and minds (and loyalty and checkbooks) of football fans worldwide that follow the Premier League but haven’t picked a team yet. When you think about it. it’s a smart move. There are literally hundreds of thousands if not milions of football fans who follow the Premier League but haven’t picked a team to support. Read the rest of the article in the Sunday Express.
  • Earlier last week, Manchester United announced that their new shirt sponsor will be Aon Corporation. United will continue having the AIG name on their shirts for the 2009-10 season. After which, Aon’s name will replace AIG. Many of you interested to know that Aon Corporation is based in Chicago. As for United, they’ll get £20m-a-year from the contract.
  • The Two Footed Tackle blog has put together an interesting index of the Premier League blogs that have the most influence. EPL Talk is ranked number three with The Offside in second place and Soccerlens topping the chart.
  • It’s not Premier League-related, but if you’re a soccer fan in the United States who enjoys watching the Bundesliga on GolTV, your required reading for the day is an interview with GolTV executive Rodrigo Lombello to discuss the recently renewed Bundesliga TV rights deal as well as some exciting news for followers of the German league. Congrats to Chris Murphy (aka DoublePivot) for securing the interview.

Don’t forget to follow EPL Talk on Twitter and Google Reader for more Premier League news updated throughout the day, every day.
