First Clue to Chelsea's Managerial intentions

The British press have reported today that Portugal’s vice-president, Amandio De Carvalho , has confirmed that he is aware that Roman Abramovich is interested in Felipe Scolari. Scolari’s contract is up on June 30th and whilst rumours have surrounded his future, this was the first confirmation of any real interest. Carvalho stated “I already know that Chelsea are interested in Scolari”. The Portugal manager currently earns £2 million a year, a wage that was boosted during the English FA’s hamfisted attempts to hire him to replace Sven Goran Eriksson in 2006, but that amount will seem like smalll change to the amount he could earn at Chelsea. Mourinho was earning £5million a season at Chelsea and Scolari could expect parity on that level.

The full article has appeared in the Independent this morning which trumped the BBC’s correspondent Mihir Bose who claimed Scolari wasn’t wanted by Chelsea last night. Bose makes a habit of pronouncing news incorrectly so it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Scolari is to be the new Chelsea manager after Euro 2008 finishes.
