Contento Signs On At Bayern Munich

Bayern Secure Contento On New Long-Term Deal.

Diego Contento, one of Bayern Munich’s most promising young players, has today secured a new 3-year deal with the Bundesliga champions.

Contento graduated from Bayern’s youth system in January of this year, and made his first Bundesliga appearance for the club against FC Nuremberg, where he started in the place of an injured Daniel Van Buyten. Contento went on to make eight more Bundesliga appearances, as well as featuring in two DFB Pokal games, and three Champions League games for Bayern this past term.

Bayern Munich have quite a few young starlets at the club, including David Alaba, Holger Badstuber, the on-loan Toni Kroos, Thomas Mueller, and of course Contento himself. It is important for them to secure long-term deals for their younger players so that the dynasty of Bayern Munich does not depend on heavy spending during the summer transfer window.

Also, with the likes of Van Buyten, Van Bommel and Klose all nearing the end of their careers at Die Roten, it is essential that key players like this be replaced effectively. Contento for Van Buyten, Alaba for Van Bommel, and Thomas Mueller for Klose. There, then, not just the skills of the old-guard are replaced, but essentially a ‘new old-guard’ would form itself. Being able to rely on younger players who understand the traditions and passion of Bayern Munich and it’s supporters will be essential to Die FCB’s future, and to any success they will have in years to come.

Contento looks set to have a bright future with Bayern Munich, having already lifted a Bundesliga title, a DFB Pokal title, and a runners-up medal in the Champions League at the age of 20.
