Carlo Ancelotti

Chelsea considers Ancelotti as long-term successor to Lampard

Chelsea are reportedly considering bringing back Carlo Ancelotti as the team’s manager. The Italian was previously at the helm of the West London club between 2009-2011.

He helped guide Chelsea to two significant trophies during his two years with the Premier League side.

Frank Lampard was appointed caretaker manager of Chelsea on Thursday. Blues brass, however, wants to hire a permanent coach in the coming weeks.

Club officials will take their time to find the right fit while Lampard is temporarily in charge.

Italian coach joins lengthy list of candidates

Chelsea apparently have a long list of potential coaches to fill the vacancy.

Luis Enrique, Jose Mourinho, Julian Nagelsmann, Jose Mourinho, and Mauricio Pochettino have all been linked with the job. Ancelotti would also be a solid option for Chelsea; however, the Italian is currently manager at Real Madrid.

Despite winning the LaLiga and Champions League titles last season, Ancelotti is supposedly on thin ice in Spain.

Real are currently second in the Spanish top flight, 12 points behind bitter rivals Barcelona. Nevertheless, the manager is still widely respected at the club. Real can also still possibly win the Champions League and Copa del Rey trophies this season.

Ancelotti asserted wish to stay at Real beyond current season

Ancelotti confirmed his desire to remain with the Spanish giants on Friday. “I don’t want to swap with anyone because I’m very happy here at the best club in the world, in a place where people love me, there’s a lot of affection. So I don’t want to change,” Ancelotti told reporters at a press conference.

“That’s what I’m thinking right now. I’m excited because the season is alive. We’ll play our fourth final this season. Right now we’re happy; we have to finish well. It’s true that we’re behind in the league because Barcelona have done very well. We have four points fewer than last season and they have many more.”

“We’re satisfied. To finish the season well would mean winning more trophies, that would mean a spectacular season.”

Real’s path to repeat as Champions League winners goes through Chelsea.

The two sides were drawn against each other in the quarterfinal stage. The Spanish side host the Blues on April 12th, before traveling to London in the return leg a week later.
