Chelsea add Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou to manager shortlist

The coaching vacancy at Chelsea continues to create newspaper headlines. A plethora of coaches have already linked with the job. This includes Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Ruben Amorim, Arne Slot, and Vincent Kompany. However, there appears to now be another name added to the list. This is none other than Ange Postecoglou.

A revelation by The Guardian on Friday detailed that Ange Postecoglou is also under consideration at Stamford Bridge. Postecoglou is the current manager of Celtic. The Australian coach has an interesting résumé compared to the other candidates for the Blues’ job. Prior to joining the Scottish giants, Postecoglou managed Yokohama F. Marinos, the Australian national team, and a series of Australian A-League clubs.

Postecoglou on his way to successive Scottish titles

Since joining Celtic in the summer of 2021, Postecoglou won the Scottish Premiership in his first season at the helm. He has also lifted back-to-back League Cup trophies as well. Celtic are also currently leading the top flight and should win the league again.

Collecting silverware at Celtic is a clear achievement, but it is more an expectation for the club’s fans. After all, the Hoops have won 113 major domestic trophies in their illustrious history. Nevertheless, Postecoglou has gained a reputation for implementing a visually pleasing, attacking style of play. In fact, Celtic have managed to rack up an incredible 102 goals in just 32 league games so far this season.

Chelsea have Mauricio Pochettino atop their shortlist

Though Postecoglou has made it onto Chelsea’s shortlist in their search for a manager, he’s not considered to be a frontrunner. According to the aforementioned British news outlet, Mauricio Pochettino is now the current favorite for the job. This comes after Julian Nagelsmann pulled out of the race on Friday.

Chelsea’s technical department seems content with taking their time to hire a new manager. As such, Frank Lampard arrived to take charge of the team until the end of the current campaign. The Blues have seven matches remaining on the fixture list but have lost all four of Lampard’s opening games in charge.
