Borussia Dortmund Want to Sign Serge Gnabry to Replace Robert Lewandowski, Says Report

After agreeing a contract with Bayern Munich to let Robert Lewandowski join the Bavarian club this summer, Borussia Dortmund are very interested in signing Arsenal attacking midfielder Serge Gnabry, according to a report in Bild today.

The German international footballer played for Stuttgart as a youth and has made more than 20 appearances for Germany’s national team at youth level. Gnabry played a key role in Arsenal’s recent 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup, and has an opportunity to gain more playing time for the Gunners with the club squad experiencing several injuries to key players.

According to Bild, Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp had sent scouts to watch Gnabry in action at different times in 2013.

Despite Dortmund’s interest, it’s unlikely that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will let Gnabry go for several reasons. Squad depth at Arsenal is vulnerable currently due to injury issues, and Gnabry would be a valuable player to have available when needed. In terms of value, Wenger signed Gnabry for just £100,000 from Stuttgart, and the German midfielder has many years ahead of him to get more playing time and to raise his value even more significantly. Plus, there’s always the opportunity of Gnabry winning some silverware for the Gunners if he stays with the club.
