Throughout the match, Bayern Munich established as the more dominant side, enjoying long spells of possession and excelling with their high press. However, Real Madrid managed to compete by sitting deep defensively and breaking on the counterattack, proving quite efficient. While this kept the game closely contested, Luis Díaz and Michael Olise ultimately decided the Champions League victory with two stunning goals in the closing minutes.

Los Blancos started the match in top form, as just 36 seconds in, Arda Güler scored a long-range goal following a mistake by Manuel Neuer in the build-up. However, they chose not to seek control through possession, instead sitting back defensively and hitting on the counterattack. Because of this, they were able to dictate the rhythm of the game, with the Turkish midfielder completing a brilliant brace, including a stunning free-kick goal.

While the German side controlled possession, Real Madrid looked more dangerous. Aleksandar Pavlović and Harry Kane scored the two goals that brought the game level, showcasing their quality. However, Kylian Mbappé restored the lead in the 45th minute, finishing off a great cross from Vinícius Jr. with two touches to beat Manuel Neuer and send his team into halftime in front.

Far from easing their attacking pressure in the second half, Bayern Munich continued to dominate the game, constantly pushing to score and secure the win. In response, Los Blancos relied on a solid low block that cut out any attacking moves while breaking quickly on the counter. After persistent pressure, the German side eventually found the victory, with two impressive individual moments from Luis Díaz and Michael Olise late in the match.

Luis Diaz and Michael Olise impressed with their brilliant goals

Relentlessly pressing for a goal in the second half, Bayern Munich finally broke the deadlock in the aggregate score. Driving into Real Madrid’s box, Aleksandar Pavlović executed a short pass to Luis Díaz on the left, who then returned it and laid it off to Jamal Musiala. The German executed a first-time backheel pass, setting up the Colombian perfectly. After dribbling past the defenders, Díaz fired an excellent shot past Lunin.

Far from settling after Luis Díaz’s goal, the German side maintained their attacking intent. Following a pass from Harry Kane, Michael Olise drove efficiently toward Real Madrid’s box. Taking on Antonio Rüdiger and Franco Mastantuono, the Frenchman unleashed a stunning strike from outside the area, placing the ball into the corner of the net and leaving Andriy Lunin with no chance, making it 6–4 on aggregate.

85' - Jamal Musiala does not seem to fit (2-3)

Although coach Vincent Kompany opted for Jamal Musiala in search of creativity, the German hasn't quite managed to shine. Not only is he failing to contribute offensively, but he also seems lost on the field. As a result, the team remains lackluster and has had few real scoring opportunities. Moreover, the German side looks tired, without effectiveness.

70' - Bayern Munich chase the third goal, but Real Madrid do not leave gaps (2-3)

Bayern Munich can't find any openings, despite their strong control of the ball. Real Madrid have opted to maintain an impressive deep defensive block, packing all their players into their own penalty area. By doing so, they've managed to shut down any offensive opportunities for the German side, as they're leaving no space at all.

65' - Real Madrid reinforce their counterattack strategy (2-3)

Real Madrid tightens their defensive strategy. Facing Bayern Munich’s attack, they drop back as a unit, packing the box with defenders. This limits their opponent’s space. Then, they launch a quick counterattack, with Vinicius Jr. and Trent Alexander-Arnold leading the charge, always finding Kylian Mbappé or Arda Güler.

60' - Bayern Munich and Real Madrid announce another subtitutions (2-3)

54' - Konrad Laimer brings out the best in Michael Olise (2-3)

Unlike in the first half, Konrad Laimer emerges as a key player at right back. In doing so, he supports Michael Olise, who always finds him to be an ideal partner for creating team plays. Furthermore, the German side gains a stronger presence in the attack, as there are more options available.

54' - Impressive save from Manuel Neuer (2-3)

With Alphonso Davies coming on, Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has decided to adjust Harry Kane’s role on the field. The Englishman is no longer a key part of the team’s build-up play, instead remaining as a fixed center forward, looking to tie down Rudiger and Militao. With this, the Canadian shines with his speed, finding Luis Diaz, who has already had two chances.

46' - Luis Diaz nears Bayern third goal (2-3)

Following a great pass from Alphonso Davies, Harry Kane receives the ball, but fails to control it. Then, Luis Diaz recovers the ball, shooting a ball that was rejected by Jude Bellingham.

Throughout the first half, Bayern Munich have remained the dominant team on the field. With strong possession and high pressure, they’ve created numerous scoring opportunities, but have failed to convert them. However, the German side has a serious problem: their defense back. Without playing brilliantly, Real Madrid have managed to stay dangerous, taking advantage of the wide-open spaces left by their opponents.

42' - GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL OF KYLIAN MBAPPE FOR REAL MADRID (2-3)

One of the most intense matches in the Champions League. After a pass from Rudiger to Vinicius Jr., the Brazilian picked up speed and found Kylian Mbappé unmarked. He played the ball to Mbappé, who controlled it and slotted it through Manuel Neuer’s legs, scoring Los Blancos’ third goal.

38' - GOOOOOOOOAL OF HARRY KANE OF BAYERN MUNICH (2-2)

Maintaining his control of the ball, Harry Kane managed to score the equalizer for Bayern Munich. Following a precise pass from Dayot Upamecano, the Englishman found himself unmarked, as Luis Díaz had drawn the defenders away. After dribbling past a defender and setting himself up, he finished first-time, beating Lunin.

33' - Bayern Munich keep easygoing, dominating the game (1-)

Far from being fazed by Real Madrid's two goals, Bayern Munich continue to dominate possession, looking for openings in the opposing defense. Despite this, Eder Militao and Antonio Rüdiger are shining, shutting down any attempts to get close.

26' - Real Madrid have found Bayern weakest area (1-1)

Real Madrid have already identified Bayern Munich's weakness: the gaps between the defense and the midfield. With this in mind, Arda Güler and Brahim Díaz are already trying to thread passes through, while Mbappé is making constant runs in search of a breakthrough. However, the German side continues to shine defensively.

26' - Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin makes a great save (1-1)

Amid a strong shot from Joshua Kimmich, Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin makes a heroic save.

20' - Kylian Mbappé chases Bayern defenders back (1-1)

While Bayern Munich remain in control, Real Madrid continue to look for ways to break through their opponent’s defense. By finding spaces behind the defense, Kylian Mbappé has already had two clear chances, both of which were cleared at the last moment by Laimer and Upamecano. That’s where los Blancos’ goal could come from, with passes from Guler and Brahim.

16'- Ferland Mendy rules out Michael Olise impact (1-1)

Bayern Munich have once again made an impact, dominating the game from the opening minutes. However, Ferland Mendy has stood out defensively, consistently cutting off Michael Olise’s runs.

12' - Harry Kane overall impact leads Bayern Munich offense (1-1)

In these opening minutes, Harry Kane has established as Bayern Munich's most important player. He's not only making an impact as a scorer but is also leading the creative charge, creating space for his teammates.

10' - Bayern Munich are dominating Real Madrid (1-1)

Making their dominance clear in every respect, Bayern Munich prove that pressure is no problem for them. With excellent ball control and constant support, they dominate the opening minutes of the match.

5' GOOOOOOOOOOOOAL OF ALEKSANDAR PAVLOVIĆ OF BAYERN (1-1)

Following a tightly contested corner kick by Joshua Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlović heads the ball first time, beating Andriy Lunin and tying the game. Bayern Munich remains fairly calm, showing no signs of pressure.

5'- Real Madrid's early goal do not worry Bayern Munich (0-1)

Although the early goal took everyone by surprise, Bayern Munich remain firmly in control and hasn't been thrown off balance by their high press. However, Real Madrid continue to play an attacking style, constantly threatening the German side with their powerful counterattacks.

1' GOOOOOOOOOOOAL OF ARDA GULER

After an impressive bad pass from Manuel Neuer, Real Madrid star Arda Guler intercepts the ball, shooting a long-distance goal in the first minute.

Bayern Munich legend Manuel Neuer warns on Real Madrid’s danger

After their 2-1 victory in the first leg, Bayern Munich head into the match against Real Madrid with a clear advantage. Not only did they dominate, but they were also lethal on offense. Furthermore, Harry Kane is in top form and is the key player leading the attack. Despite this, Manuel Neuer has decided to remain cautious, warning of the danger posed by their opponent.

The only advantage is that we have a (one-goal) lead, but it’s Real Madrid; it is a very tough challenge. We are fortunate to play the second leg at home, and we have confidence in the fans. We are very motivated and prepared. It’s a good situation to be in… but we must be careful, as we’ve seen in the past how Real Madrid can win,“ he said in press conference.

Bayern Munich are on the verge of ending a six-year drought without winning the Champions League

Bayern Munich have established as one of the top teams of this decade, winning multiple trophies and dominating the Bundesliga. However, they have gone six years without winning the UEFA Champions League, marking a significant drought in their title-winning history. With the arrival of Vincent Kompany, the German side is closer than ever to breaking this losing streak, as his high level of play is expected to make all the difference.

Since the Belgian coach’s arrival, Bayern Munich have become one of the best teams in the world. With a fluid style of play, they dominate their opponents, as Harry Kane plays a key role in creating chances while also excelling as a goal scorer. Additionally, they maintain intense high pressure that stifles their opponents. After shining in the first leg against Real Madrid, they emerge as clear favorites for today’s match.

Álvaro Arbeloa may decide his Real Madrid’s future vs Bayern Munich

Álvaro Arbeloa was appointed head coach of Real Madrid as an immediate solution after Xabi Alonso was dismissed mid-season. While he has had a solid impact on the dressing room, the team has yet to fully find its best version. Not only do they lack a defined playing style, but they also raise serious doubts regarding their consistency. Because of this, the Spaniard is reportedly playing for his future today against Bayern Munich.

According to Marco Ruiz, via Diario AS, the Blancos’ front office is not fully convinced about giving Arbeloa continuity. As a result, the Spaniard must defeat the German side to strengthen his case. With Barcelona close to winning LaLiga, they must win the Champions League to save their season. If they fail to do so, the coach could leave the club, along with several players.

How Real Madrid’s win, draw, or loss against Bayern today could affect the UEFA Champions League bracket

After losing 1-2 to Bayern Munich, Real Madrid are looking to stage a comeback in the second leg of the 2025–26 Champions League quarterfinals. However, los Blancos do not only need a win, but are also forced into a specific scenario. Here, we will analyze the three possible outcomes.

  • How could Real Madrid’s win against Bayern affect the UEFA Champions League bracket?

In case Real Madrid secure a victory over Bayern Munich, they would not immediately guarantee a place in the 2025–26 Champions League semifinals. Trailing by just one goal in the aggregate score, Los Blancos need to win by a two-goal margin against the German side to advance.

  • How could Real Madrid’s draw against Bayern affect the UEFA Champions League bracket?

Holding just one-goal margin in the overall score, Real Madrid would be directly eliminated of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League in case they draw against Bayern Munich.  If Los Blancos clinch a victory by a one-goal margin, they would level the aggregate score. In that sense, a winner would have to be decided in extra time, with two periods of 15 minutes each. If there is still no winner, the match would go to a penalty shootout.

  • How could Real Madrid’s defeat against Bayern affect the UEFA Champions League bracket?

Having failed to secure a decisive victory in the first leg, Real Madrid would be eliminated from the 2025-26 Champions League if they lose to Bayern Munich.
