Bayer Leverkusen

Ballack Signs For Leverkusen

Germany’s Michael Ballack has completed his move to Bayer Leverkusen, after Chelsea refused to renew his contract just weeks ago. The ex-captain of Germany has chosen a move back to his old club, where he played from 1999-2002. Despite offers from other premier league clubs and an offer from Steve McLaren’s Wolfsburg, Ballack decided to return to familiar settings.

Ballack, at age 33, is nearing the end of an illustrious career. His experience will be vital for Leverkusen heading into the next two seasons, and what he can pass on to some of their younger players will be invaluable.

Ballack will slot into midfield next to Simon Rolfes, and provide a deep-lying playmaker role for the club. Leverkusen, who finished in 4th last season, will certainly be looking to improve on that this term with the help of Michael Ballack.

Ballack served as captain of the national side from 2004-2010, only recently being replaced by Philipp Lahm. The Bundesliga will be that much better with Ballack once again gracing it with his game.
