London (AFP) – West Ham United striker Andy Carroll is well despite being targeted by armed robbers on motorbikes, his manager Slaven Bilic said on Thursday.

“He is good. I just spoke to him about what happened. He is OK,” Bilic told his weekly press conference.

British media reports said Carroll, 27, was targeted by two motorcyclists, who gestured they were armed, as he drove towards his home in Essex, east of London on Wednesday.

The England international sped off and reported the matter to police, who are investigating.

“He was probably targeted. I don’t think it was a coincidence and he was chased for a long time,” Bilic added.

“He was very brave and came back to the training ground. Thankfully he is good and not in shock. He acted in a brave manner.

“Whatever he needs or any other player, we can provide for them. He is smiling today and is in a good environment now.”

Carroll has not played since August due to a knee injury, but Bilic said he expected him to return to action “in two weeks”.
