In the hours leading up to the UEFA Champions League final between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain at Munich’s Allianz Arena, tensions flared between opposing fans, leading to a brief suspension of subway service in one of the city’s busiest districts.
According to reports from German media, the Universität subway station—serving lines U3 and U6 and located in the Maxvorstadt district—was temporarily shut down after incidents involving groups of supporters from both clubs escalated. Witnesses cited in the reports claimed that the situation began with verbal provocation between rival fans. Shouting and chanting quickly turned hostile, and the confrontation intensified to include minor physical altercations.
Law enforcement officers and local security teams were called to the scene to de-escalate the situation. While the conflict did not result in serious injuries or arrests, the transport authorities made the decision to halt train operations at the station temporarily in the interest of public safety. The train headed toward the Allianz Arena, where the final is set to take place, was forced to stop its service until the area was secured.
The Universität station, typically one of the more peaceful and student-heavy parts of the city due to its proximity to several universities and cultural centers, was overwhelmed by the influx of soccer fans throughout the day. Many locals and commuters found themselves caught up in the disruption.
